5 things to think about when designing a website
15 seconds to grab someone’s attention
If you can convince users to stay on your page for 30 seconds, there’s a fair chance they’ll stay much longer. But figures show that 55% of visitors spend fewer than 15 seconds on your website.
So to sum up, it’s clear you need to grab the visitor’s attention fast. How you do this? Carry on reading to find out what you need to include on your website and what it is you maybe missing out on.
What should your website include?
Who you are and what you do. Sounds simple? Don’t assume that visitors know who you are and what you do. You need to spoon-feed them this information. If someone has stumbled upon your website they shouldn’t need to do the investigating to work out what you do. It should be there – loud and clear.
Most importantly, you need to include on your website WHY you do it. “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it,” (Simon Sinek). Think about the purpose, cause and belief of what you do and tell your visitors. You should always start with why!
Call to Action
Whether your website is e-commerce, informational, portfolio or a blog. You will always need a call to action. From how to contact you or purchase a product. Have you made this easy for your customers? If the visitor has to go out of their way to search for a way to get in touch, your site has missed its purpose.
Never underestimate the power of testimonials on your website. Visitors will have more confidence buying into your product or service if there are testimonials. It is a way for potential customers to establish trust in your business and strengthens your credibility.
Including a blog on your website can be beneficial for many reasons and could be the thing you are missing off your website. It allows you to give your business a personality that may not be portrayed on the website. However, one of the most important reasons to include a blog on your website is that it helps you rank higher in Search Engines, as a blog keeps your website fresh and current, which Google likes!
Social Media Icons
You may already have social media icons on your website BUT do you have them on every page? Because you should. Social media presence is an essential form of communication you need to include in your marketing strategy. You need to encourage visitors of your website to move over to your social media pages where they then have the chance to receive daily updates on your business.
